Todays final in Greystones v Wicklow spans a gap of 43yrs since Suttoninans last team made the final of this particular trophy, a trophy Suttonians had a great record in from 1978-1982.

Originally run for U19 teams, the competition commemorates a senior Railway Union member who actually played on same team as Tom Lowe father of our own Paul Lowe. Todays team is an amalgam of Suttonians and Coolmine and who finished 2nd in their U20 League section.

Suttonians were narrowly beaten by Navan (7-3) last time they reached the final in 1981-82. The game was played in Clontarf and the team included (Graham O'Brien, Dermot Martin, Jim Shanhan, Andy Johnston who all would play for the 1st XV) with the team coached by Rory B Duke and Brian Fahey.

Previously Suttonians had won in 1978-79 and again in 1979-80 both under the Captaincy of Steve O' Grady & Coach Gerry O'Reilly

In 1978-79 the team beat Roscrea 22-6 and included Micheal de Buitleir, Ray Daly, Niall Hanrahan, JJ Barry, Sean O' Mahony, Louis Fisher, Niall Fitzgibbon who would all play 1stXV)

In 1979-80 the final saw Suttonians come out on top 9-6 v Carlow after a very tough campaign which included a replayed semi-final played in the National Stud in Kildare.
