Thats right folks, a 100 -1 winner of the Grand National but before you all rush down to the bookies it was in 1947

On the day of the Grand National no better time to tell the story of our very own Caughoo, on a late March afternoon in 1947, an Irish horse,  owned by Jack McDowell a former Suttonians Club Captain and President, emerged out of a dense, swirling fog to win the most iconic of all horse races, the Aintree Grand National. The horse, named Caughoo , galloped home at odds of 100 -1. Jack's brother Herbie, who was also a Suttonian player and 2nd team Captain was the trainer.

Our Golden Oldies team is named after the famous horse, they are called the Caughoos.

A memorial to the horse was erected over the horses grave on the left as you drive into Bean Eadai View and is now in McDowell family home.  Although legend has it that the horse is really buried under the main pitch, and visiting team's have often said that they could hear the sound of his ghostly hooves thundering down the pitch as they defended their lines.
