Suttonians RFC is delighted to congratulate Willie Moran on being awarded the prestigious Services to Rugby Medal by the Irish Rugby Football Union.

This distinguished honour recognises Willie’s decades of tireless dedication to the game and, in particular, to the life and future of Suttonians Rugby Football Club. Each club across Ireland was asked to nominate a candidate for this award, and while several worthy names came to mind, there was only one Maximus in our eyes—Willie Moran.

From his early days as a player, right through to serving as President of the club, Willie has embodied the very spirit of Suttonians RFC. Over the years, he has held countless roles across numerous committees—so many, in fact, that we won’t even try to list them all for fear of leaving one out. Through it all, Willie has remained unwavering in one thing: putting Suttonians first. (Just ask Debbie!

While we may not always see where he is coming from at times, that is because he is normally a few steps ahead of us,  nobody ever doubts that Willie’s heart is firmly rooted in the best interests of the club. His passion, commitment, and energy are unparalleled, and this recognition from the IRFU is both richly deserved and long overdue.

Willie will be presented with his medal by IRFU President Mr. Declan Madden at a special pre-match reception ahead of the Energia All-Ireland League Finals at the Aviva Stadium. Here’s hoping the ceremony doesn’t clash with the  Leeds United play-off final at Wembley—we know where his loyalties might be tested!
